Monthly Worship
Helps August 2007
The liturgical season of Pentecost is in full swing. With its focus on Jesus’ teaching, rather than key events in His life, the Gospel lessons follow Jesus’ ministry as recorded by the evangelist Luke. His teachings in this month’s Gospel readings focus on the strong temptation of greed and its power to make money and possessions, things not evil in and of themselves, into idols that sinful man worships; the eternal importance of being ready in faith for our Lord’s return to judge all mankind, the signs of which are ever-present and warning us of its imminence; and the salvation truth that Jesus is the narrow door, the only way of entrance into eternal life with God, where all His faithful people will be present at the eternal feast of the Lamb, Jesus, who was slain for the sins of the world.
