WUGGIE'S MUSIC, MEDIA AND MORE!

WUGGIE'S MUSIC, MEDIA AND MORE!

Ratings System:
++ Christian - made specifically by Christians for Christians
+ Secular - but contains nothing offensive to most Christians, probably made by Christians trying to exert influence in secular media.
M Mature content. Not necessarily offensive, but parents should be careful before allowing exposure to children and pre-teens.
X Mature content. For mature teens, firm in their convictions and morals, who have received much parental guidance.
XX Contains very mature, problematic content. Parents should seriously consider restricting exposure to teens.
XXX Completely offensive. Not only should teens be restricted, but adults may want to question their own exposure.

Mario / Turning Point / XX
Mario's lyrics run from innuendo on "Love me real hard" to blatant on "Direction". In the later song he describes a sexual encounter in vivid detail. The hit single is a song called, "Let me love you", in which he defines the way he would love the woman he is singing to is with sexual pleasure and expensive gifts. Need I point out that this is degrading to women, making them into materialistic sex objects? We don't need these messages in our minds.

Jennifer Lopez / Rebirth / X (XXX for the video)
J-Lo's new CD doesn't come out until March 1, so I can only listen to the single, "Get it right". A casual listen to the lyrics reveals no bad words, not even suggestive situations. Could J-Lo, an artist who has made a name for herself by pushing the envelope, be taking the title of her CD seriously? Nope! All I had to do was watch MTV for a few minutes (ok, a lot of minutes, because they don't always play videos) to catch the video for "Get it right". The video starts with J-Lo bringing her 6 year old daughter into a nightclub through the back door, and handing her off to the DJ who looks after her in the DJ booth while mom strips down to her leather lingerie and dances on the bar. J-Lo mentions to someone on the phone that she is in a "gay bar", and the rest of the video shows us J-Lo dancing on the bar while all the women in the club get turned on. And you wonder why I constantly write against MTV? J-Lo's image certainly hasn't been reborn. I can't imagine a decent CD coming next month.

Jesse McCartney / Beautiful Soul / +
The title track is a great song, and although it's a little sappy for my personal taste, I think the guy has amazing talent. He speaks of loving someone for their inner self, without regard to worldly beauty and materialism. It's a theme Jesse picks up in other songs on the disc as well. In "She's no you", Jesse apparently sees a very attractive girl walk by, but tells his love that she should be confident that she is the much better prize because of who she is, not what she looks like. What great messages!! What a great new artist!
