February 2006 WUGGIE'S MUSIC, MEDIA AND MORE! WUGGIE'S MUSIC, MEDIA AND MORE! Ratings System: ++ Christian - made specifically by Christians for Christians + Secular - but contains nothing offensive to most Christians, probably made by Christians trying to exert influence in secular media. M Mature content. Not necessarily offensive, but parents should be careful before allowing exposure to children and pre-teens. X Mature content. For mature teens, firm in their convictions and morals, who have received much parental guidance. XX Contains very mature, problematic content. Parents should seriously consider restricting exposure to teens. XXX Completely offensive. Not only should teens be restricted, but adults may want to question their own exposure. Remember, my reviews are strictly my opinion, and no substitute for your good judgment Please send me an Email (Mwuggazer@RedeemerBirmingham.org) or call me (248-644-4010) with requests for reviews!! Wuggie's Music Media and More My Review System: ++ Patently Christian + Conforms to Christian morals and value M Mature content X Mild objectionable content XX Objectionable content XXX Offensive content The All-American Rejects / Move Along / X Fortunately the cryptic lyrics might hide some stuff you wouldn't want your kids exposed to. There are no bad words, no innuendo, no envelope pushing, thankfully, because this is pretty good postmodern punk. Of course, post modern punk doesn't just mean 3 heavy guitar riffs played over and over. It also means lyrics so full of emotion and feeling that it's hard to sort out what the point is, what the value systems are, and sometimes what the song is even about. Therefore, I'm going to go easy on The Rejects from the standpoint that what I can't even figure out is not going to hurt your teenager. My only caveat is that this music might not be for the teen who is struggling with any type of depression or undefined angst. They might read into it whatever they want, or worse yet, find a role model in the band. D4L / Laffy Taffy / XXX Crude sexual euphemisms dominate this band's recordings. Is this a contest to see who can be more rude? If so, their bank accounts are winning, and our kids are losing. Beyoncé & Slim Thug / #1's / Check on it This disc contains some pretty sexualized lyrics, but nothing as crushing as D4L. It's all innuendo, there are no bad words, and the envelope doesn't get pushed. Still, not recommended for pre-teens who are struggling with highly sexualized media role models. The Warriors / Video Game / XXX This new game, from Rockstar, the people who brought us the classic "Grand Theft Auto", could possibly be more violent and graphic than it's predecessor. After only watching it (let alone playing it) for a minute, I was revolted by the violence and bloodshed. This game can not be compared in any way to shooting games such as Halo, which I find pretty palatable. Bully / Video Game / XXX The next game from Rockstar, due out next month, Bully features violent schoolyard bullies fighting each other. Points can be scored by terrorizing other pupils with a range of physical and psychological abuse. Players use their on-screen persona to kick and punch other pupils and even to spit in their food. They can use weapons such as baseball bats and catapults. There is also an option to flush pupils' heads down lavatories. The game isn't due to be released until next month, but I went to the website and just looked at some still screen shots. I was revolted as equally as I was with the Warriors. Parents be warned, This company's product is extremely violent. |
